I posted here on our family blog previously our very first rented house here in the UK (A Work in Progress), but after a year we decided to move out for some reason. We loved that house, it was spacious, it also has this huge converted garage that we can store our stuff or can be made as an office or a mini library or Amelia’s playroom. I won’t forget the garden, it was spacious and there’s plenty of grass area where Lia can walk and run during summer. And oh, the conservatory that serves as our little dining area during spring and summer, and Liabelle’s play area during fall and winter time. The kitchen is huuuuuuggggeeee, like a chef’s little haven!
But little by little the parking situation has gotten worse, there was one time someone managed to get us blocked on that little road in front of our house because there was so much cars parked on both sides of the curb. There’s a child minder around the area and most of her clients park in front of our driveway and there are times when I feel like we cannot really get out of our own driveway. So one day, I decided i’m already done with the parking situation in which I don’t want to risk Rick being in trouble for it and I have decided to look around if there were any nice houses to rent. And baaaaammm, that house that I first wanted to move into since we got here was up online again… to rent! Talk about timing, I told myself maybe it was meant for us. The next day I found out that it has already been rented because it was that popular! My heart was broken. Lol! And off to search a different house again, until I found this house that says it was immaculate, clean in and out, and that it has ALLOCATED PARKING SPACE, 3 bedrooms, a cloakroom, an en-suite and a bathroom. A perfect fit! The house is smaller than the current one and so easy for me to clean! We found out from the letting agency that we are the first one to view it, YESSSS!
Last week of July when we moved in here, a week after we came back from our long vacation in the Philippines. I wanted the house to look different from our previous houses/condo units that we have rented in the Philippines. I also have to reconsider that the landlord’s fiancé is a bit of a clean freak and that they just had the carpet done fairly recently. I consulted my new best friend, Pinterest! I would definitely consider myself one of the Pinterest mamas, it is where I would mostly get ideas from our Christmas tree down to Liabelle’s activities. I searched for some pegs and designs, a bit of rustic (I love anything rustic, it was our wedding theme), modern, chic and a bit of contemporary. It was quite challenging as well since we already had our stuff from our previous house that I have to fit in into our new space, I also have to consider the colours of our sofa, the dining chair, etc. I made little cute sketches of how I wanted it to look like and considered buying new bookcases.
For our hallway, I didn’t really need to do much because everything has been left like this. The picture hooks, the Ikea shoe rack and the mirror. I just needed to add a little flare that’s why I decided to add flowers for personal touch. For our picture wall, we used black frames which we already have from the Philippines, I just rotate around pictures so that it looks different and updated from time to time.
For our kitchen, we managed to fit our table and chairs from our previous house. The bench is still on the side if ever we have guests over for dinner or birthday gatherings. The owners also left the cabinet, so yehey for extra storage! I feel like I still need to do a lot of improvements, I know I can do better with storing the kitchen equipments. I consider them eye sores. Lol! I just need to keep everything to a minimum. Conceal, don’t feel as per Queen Elsa of Arendelle. The cutie little bear on our kitchen roll holder is called, Bert the Bear, he looks sweet!
The cloakroom was kept simple and minimum. The shelves were already in there and all I have to do is just throw in some towels, a diffuser and some other more decorative touches.
The Living Room:
For our living room, I decided to go beige and grey with a little touch of dark colours, brown and black in particular. When I was doing my sketches, I read an article on how to make your living room look classy and one of which is to go with monochromatic colours, mostly beige and whites and add up a little accent colour. Lucky for us that before we moved in, the owners has just got the place repainted and the carpets done with two different shades of grey. I was thinking of getting a different TV rack and centre table but we have to reconsider the budget, we just got them about a year ago. Haha! I am still finding a way to decorate the console table and the centre table nicely but for now this will do. They still look nice, right?
Our little princess Amelia’s bedroom, her only request? A pink, princess room. We got her a proper closet for her clothes rather than resorting for plastic boxes for storage. We also got her a little bench-slash-toy box, this is where daddy would usually sit while reading her a bedtime story. We recently moved my office table in her bedroom and made it her study table, I find it appropriate since she enjoys doing her lessons and she will be starting school this coming September.
The bathroom was kept in almost all whites like a lighthouse/seaside theme.
The Masters Bedroom:
The masters bedroom has the same layout as our previous bedroom, but I got my own table where I can do my make-up or just sit down or browse into my laptop.
I wasn’t able to take a picture of our garden at the moment because it is winter and we haven’t put an effort to clean other than the occasional sweeping. Rick’s office is still under redecoration and it will take quite some time before I can figure out what to do with our plastic boxes that I have got from the shed, it contains the “antique” Disney books from my mom that I cannot leave outside because it might get moist inside the box and cause the book to get wet and damp.
And there you go, this is my new work in progress! I am thinking of putting this new hobby into something, like maybe study interior design when Lia starts school? I enjoyed doing this and I am still continuously finding more ways to improve the house. What we can do at the moment is limited because we are just currently renting but hopefully, we don’t need to move until we can find our permanent home, fingers crossed it will only take 3-4 years of saving. 🤞🏻
